Antarctica
December 6 – In conjunction with Antarctica Day, students in Grades 2, 3, and 4 researched, experimented, and learned about life in Antarctica during science class.
Then last week they video chatted with Dr. Atsuhiro Muto, a professor from Temple University who has been researching glaciers and ice sheets in Antarctica for more than 15 years. Students were able to ask questions during the video chat and Dr. Muto shared many experiences, photographs, and video clips with them.
Science teacher Sandy Jordan has entered the School’s name in a lottery for the past several years. This year, RCS was finally chosen and was one of 15 schools in the U.S. to have the privilege to speak with Dr. Muto.
Ripp in the news! Temple University posted this article that explains why Dr. Muto and a larger group of researchers are reaching out to RCS students and others about the impact of melting glaciers in Antarctica.
