Seventh Graders Collect Data at Stony Hill River
On April 11, 7-2 returned to the Stony Hill River behind Saint Matthew's Church to begin their spring river analysis.
They had been at two different spots in the fall - twice at the Mianus Gorge Preserve and once at the Stony Hill River. The trip on April 11 was spent making observations about the area surrounding the river in order to determine how human activity might affect the aquatic ecosystem.
The students will return to the river three more times this spring and they will collect field data on physical factors (velocity, flow, substrate composition, etc), macroinvertebrate populations, and chemical testing. Students will then analyze their data and present their conclusions about the health of the river.
