Kindergartners Exploring the Seasons

October 2 – Kindergartners took a one-mile nature hike over streams, through pine forests, and across meadows with naturalist Jim Nordgren at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation.
They enjoyed spending time outdoors and learning about the different plants and animals they noticed along the way. Students were asked to pay special attention to the colors they saw. Back in the classroom children mixed paint to match those colors. Their beautiful paintings can be viewed on the bulletin board in the Kindergarten hallway. Come take a look!

“We’re looking forward to repeating this trip in the winter and spring,” Kindergarten teacher Nicole Levy said. “The walks will take place at the same location, providing students with an opportunity to learn about seasonal changes in a recognizable environment. This opportunity was introduced to us by Lewisboro Land Trust Co-Director Bonnie Robins. We also attended a conference at Bank Street and were inspired by a lecture on place-based education and forest Kindergarten programs by Anne Stires, executive director and founder of the Juniper Hill School.”

Our Kindergarten teachers Nicole Levy and Nicole Putorti are excited about this new addition to the program!
