Dr. Arvind Ponnambalam ’94
Dr. Arvind Ponnambalam ’94 specializes in pulmonary and critical care at Piedmont Healthcare, an 11-hospital system in the greater Atlanta, Georgia, area. He works in the hospital south of Atlanta, which has been the busiest in the Piedmont Healthcare system with respect to the Covid-19 virus.
“This has definitely been unlike anything we’ve seen before,” Dr. Ponnambalam says.
But as a healthcare worker he feels tremendous support from the community – from the hospital and from his colleagues.
“Relationships have definitely gotten much stronger. Your outlook on life changes. As a doctor who practices pulmonary and critical care medicine – I’m an ICU intensive care doctor – I really don’t take much for granted. And Covid-19 has accelerated that.”
Dr. Ponnambalam was at Ripp from SPK to ninth grade (a year he describes as “phenomenal”) and is still in very close touch with his Ripp friends.
“Ripp was really amazing. I still think my public speaking skills I completely owe to Ripp. My critical thinking, creative writing – my foundation was formed at Ripp.”
