Parents on the Front Lines

We’re thankful for RCS parent Andrew Rodgers, a nurse at the Westchester Medical Center Trauma ICU for the last 15 years. Mr. Rodgers has been fighting the coronavirus on the front lines since early March when the Trauma ICU was converted to a COVID-19 ICU.

Nursing has been physically and emotionally challenging during this crisis, Mr. Rodgers says. Normally long days have become longer. As hospitals have tried to limit their healthcare workers’ exposure to patients, nurses have taken on additional responsibilities, all while donning double masks and face shields for hours at a time.

“The protection is critical,” he says, “but once simple tasks like eating and drinking are no longer easy.”

Andrew Rodgers’ daughters (Eva ’21, Nora ’20, and Emma, who is at the University of Tennessee) are incredibly proud and supportive of their dad, and have been making care packages for the nurses at Westchester Medical Center. Healthcare is truly a family affair here! Our sincere thanks to the entire Rodgers family.
