Rippowam Cisqua School launched a school-wide wellness initiative in August, 2017. Wellness is defined as an “active process through which people become aware of, and make choices toward, a more successful existence.” (National Wellness Institute, n.d.) Inspired and informed by this definition and the six-dimension model of wellness proposed by the National Wellness Institute, Katrina Harriman and Nicole Levy, RCS Wellness Coordinators, have set out to raise awareness and build a common language around this theme for the entire school community. Activities and events the Wellness Team has organized for faculty and staff include regular barre and yoga classes, fall hikes, paddle tennis parties, Tibetan singing bowls concerts, and Mindfulness workshops. RCS students have the opportunity to participate in the initiative through yoga classes, hands on gardening activities with the Garden Club, and mindfulness activities.
Rippowam Cisqua School is a PreK-Grade 9 independent day school in Westchester County, New York. RCS offers challenging academics built on innovation, fine and performing arts, competitive athletics, wellness, leadership, service learning, and a wide selection of extracurricular activities.
