Early Explorers

For children ages 3 - 5 years old (entering Junior PreKindergarten - Kindergarten)
Summer@RCS helps your child build his or her confidence and learn valuable social skills all in the name of fun. Our hands-on morning activities are designed to spark their imagination and generate excitement by tapping into their creative skills. When early explorers stay and play during the afternoon, they will enjoy a traditional “camp-like” experience with sports, games, and water play.

All classes take place Monday through Friday.

Week One | June 17 - 21

Morning Session (9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.)

  • Dinosaur Dig

    Senior PreKindergarten - Grade 1

    Calling all dinosaur lovers! Do you love dinosaurs? Then you will LOVE Dinosaur Dig! Let’s travel back in time and discover what life was like when dinosaurs ruled the earth! Together we will read books, play games, and learn all about dinosaurs. Some activities will include building a model dinosaur, making dinosaur bones, and going on a fossil dig. Please dress for messy play.

  • Little Creators

    Junior PreKindergarten (age 3) - Senior PreKindergarten (age 4)

    Does your child love messy art projects like making glitter slime, eating yummy fruit smoothies that they helped to create, singing silly songs, or participating in special theme days like Crazy Hat Day? Early explorers will enjoy the full range of experiences in a program designed especially for them. Activities will include arts and crafts, music, games, and of course, having fun! Children must be potty trained.

  • Mad Science

    Kindergarten - Grade 4

    Mad Science focuses on hands-on learning, outdoor exploration, and creativity. Mad Science makes science fun by fostering a sense of community, building vital STEM skills, and inspiring young minds to take an interest in the scientific world around them. These scientists will use the scientific method as they conduct several experiments and share what they notice. Kids will get excited about the wonderful world around them as they experiment, make a mess, and get their hands dirty with science! Some experiments include: Fizzing Colors, Elephant Toothpaste, Lego Excavations, Color Changing Milk, Shaving Cream Rain Clouds, and much more!

  • Read That Movie - CLOSED

    Kindergarten - Grade 4

    Read that Movie is a fun summer library class exploring books that have been turned into movies! We’ll read portions of books like Mary Poppins, Jungle Book, Peter Rabbit, A Wrinkle in Time, Alexander the Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day, The Tale of Despereaux, Alice in Wonderland, Paddington, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and more. Then we’ll view highlights of the movies and pair crafts and activities that go along with each book and movie.

Afternoon Session (12:30 - 3:30 p.m.)

  • Stay & Play

    Junior PreKindergarten - Grade 4

    Stay for the afternoon for a traditional, fun, “camp-like” experience. Cool down with a variety of water activities, play outdoor games or go on the playground, have fun with arts and crafts, or let your creativity flow in the Imagination Space. On Mondays, explorers will have a blast with the RCS bouncy house and a 15-foot slide. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, the Dual Lane Big Kahuna water slide will be onsite for extra special fun!

    Kindergarten - Grade 4

    Children will be introduced to a dynamic selection of games from the classics to new favorites. Together we will learn skills, be active, and most importantly have fun! Your child will see familiar faces and also meet new friends. Throughout the week, our games will offer plentiful opportunities to practice teamwork and sportsmanship.

Summer@RCS is taught by experienced Rippowam Cisqua School educators and caring, responsible counselors. Students are closely supervised yet given the freedom to explore new interests, test their creativity, and enjoy the great outdoors with our PreK through Grade 9 specialists.

  • Class Schedule

    When do classes take place?
    Morning and afternoon classes are three hours long and take place Monday through Friday.

    PreK-Grade 4: Morning classes start at 9:00 a.m. and end at 12:00 p.m. Afternoon classes start at 12:30 p.m. and end at 3:30 p.m.

    Grades 5-9: Morning classes start at 8:45 a.m. and end at 11:45 a.m. Afternoon classes start at 12:15 p.m. and end at 3:15 p.m.

    All grades: Full day classes have varying start and end times.

    Can I sign up for just an afternoon class?
    Yes! You can sign up for morning classes, afternoon classes, or both.

    Do you offer extended day?
    Yes! Register for Sunrise or Sunset Club. Extended day starts at 7:30 a.m. and ends at 6:00 p.m. for all grades. Extended day ends when the first morning class begins and begins again when the afternoon classes end. Extended day drop-off and pick-up is on the Lower Campus located at 325 West Patent Road, Mount Kisco, NY.

    Where do the classes take place?

    PreK-Grade 4
    classes take place on the Rippowam CIsqua School Lower Campus located at 325 West Patent Road in Mount Kisco, NY.

    Grade 5-9 classes take place on the Rippowam Cisqua School Upper Campus located at 439 Cantitoe Street in Bedford, NY.

    Off-campus classes such as Hudson Valley Adventures and Museum Mash-Up take place at a variety of locations but will leave from the Rippowam Cisqua School campus. Drop-off and pick-up location details will be communicated before the start of the program.
  • Medical Care

    Is there medical care on site?
    Your child’s health and safety are our priority. A nurse will be available and our Program Director is a Certified EMT. For off-campus excursions, a nurse will have a first aid backpack and medications for emergencies.

    What if my child needs medication?
    If you are a current Rippowam Cisqua School parent, we already have your information on file. If you are a new student, you will need to complete medical forms and waivers when you register.
  • Food and Allergies

    Is lunch provided?
    Students staying for the full day are asked to bring a nut-free lunch each day except Friday. On Friday, all campers will enjoy a special lunch provided by the Pizza Station. Explorers embarking on off-campus excursions should bring their lunch each day; they can also purchase food at some venues.

    What is your policy regarding food allergies?
    Rippowam Cisqua School is nut-free.
  • Registration & Payment

    Is there a deadline for registration?
    Yes. The deadline is May 31, 2019. Classes are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. Classes will be closed once we reach the maximum number of participants.

    How do I pay for classes?
    Online registration will open in early March. A 50% non-refundable deposit is required at the time of registration. The remainder is due on May 31, 2019.

    What forms/waivers do I need to complete?
    The forms will be available upon registration. 

    My family is receiving tuition assistance. Am I eligible for aid for Summer@RCS?
    Yes! Please contact Assistant Head of School and Director of Finance Debbie Hurrell at hurrell@rcsny.org for more information.

    What is the refund policy?
    Your 50% deposit is non-refundable. No discounts, credits, or refunds will be granted for missed classes. You may withdraw from a class before it begins by notifying summer@rcsny.org at least ten business days before the first class meets. June 3 is the deadline to withdraw for week one classes. June 10 is the deadline to withdraw for week two classes. If you have paid in full and submitted your withdrawal notification by the deadline, we will issue a 50% refund. There are no refunds after the withdrawal deadline. A full refund will be issued if your class is canceled due to low enrollment.
  • Clothing & Gear

    What should my child wear?
    Children will receive one Summer@RCS t-shirt. They must wear securely fastened closed-toe shoes and socks appropriate for outdoor play. Children enrolled in Hudson Valley Adventures or Take a Hike! should wear hiking shoes and pack a backpack with water, lunch, extra clothes, a towel, and a bathing suit.
  • Communication & Contacts

    What if I need to pick up my child early or drop off my child late?
    If you are going to be late or need to pick up your child early, please call Summer Program Director Leslie Thivierge at (914) 244-1226 or email thivierge@rcsny.org.

    How will I know what is going on at camp?
    Current families will continue to receive photos directly to their mobile phone via the Waldo app. New families will receive instructions on how to sign up to receive photos of their children by text.
