AfterSchool@RCS

Using academic play as the foundation, AfterSchool@RCS provides exciting opportunities for students to build friendships and explore new interests while helping families meet their childcare needs.

Rippowam Cisqua School offers two after school programs for students:

  • CAT: CAT is after school childcare for students in Junior PreKindergarten - Grade 4. CAT provides a safe, relaxed environment where students make friends of different ages and participate in engaging and unique activities. CAT is available to Lower Campus students Monday through Thursday until 6:00 p.m. and Fridays until 5:00 p.m.

  • After School Classes: After school classes are offered to students in Junior PreKindergarten - Grade 9. After school classes take place at various times and can be paired with CAT or other classes to suit your family’s schedule.

Registration for both programs typically takes place in July/August and November so that parents can tailor their children’s participation. Additional classes may be added throughout the year.

CAT (Junior PreKindergarten - Grade 4)

The 2019-20 fall CAT term begins on September 4 and ends on December 18.

The 2019-20 fall term for Lower Campus after school classes begins September 9 and ends on December 13. *There are no after classes on November 7-8 because of conferences.

  • Advanced Jump Start

    Kindergarten-Grade 2

    Jessica Knopke’s class for Kindergarten and first grade will provide movement through individual and group play using activities and games. Class activities will be guided by developmental milestones to enhance children’s gross and fine motor skills, as well as their social-emotional awareness.  Children will improve their awareness of how movement affects their bodies and minds and will learn strategies to self-regulate. Children will absolutely love playing on the equipment in the new Sensory Room! 

    *Sign up for this class must be done no later than September 6.

  • Art Kids

    Kindergarten-Grade 2 

    Explore, discover, and create in Art Kids! Does your child love arts and crafts? Then they must be an Art Kid! Students will have the opportunity to explore materials and media such as drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, printmaking, and photography while learning new skills and techniques. The student is the artist and the classroom is the artist’s studio.

  • Art Studio

    Grades 2-4
               
    Explore, discover, and create in Choice-Based Art Studio. Students will explore a variety of materials and a full range of 2-D and 3-D media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, printmaking, photography, and computer art. We will discuss what artists do, the Studio Habits of Mind, and where/how artists get their ideas and inspiration.

    Students will learn new skills and techniques, choose themes/subjects as well as the media and materials they want to use to create their ideas. Students will explore new ways of thinking by analyzing artwork, forming critical opinions, and explaining their ideas. Students discover how to think like an artist, observe closely, solve problems, persist through challenges, and reflect on their creative process. Student artists will learn to describe their choices, their intentions, and reflect upon the process of their art making. The student is the artist and the classroom is the artist's studio.

  • Chess

    Kindergarten-Grade 4
     
    Learn how to play chess from Program DirectorDamian Donovan. Mr. Donovan brings over 20 years of chess teaching experience to RCS. 
     
    BEGINNERS CHESS (K-GRADE 1)
    Students learn the moves and rules of chess including opening fundamentals, beginner tactics, and simple checkmates. Players can also participate in beginner level chess tournaments.

    INTERMEDIATE CHESS (GRADES 2-4) 
    Students will enjoy the classic games of Morphy, Steinitz, Lasker, Capablanca, and Alekhine; the period of Soviet domination to Fischer and the champions of today.  Players will improve their problem-solving skills, record their games, play on the clock, and when ready, are encouraged to participate in chess tournaments.

  • Coding

    Grades 3-4

    Students are introduced to the logic and problem-solving behind fundamental programming concepts by Mr. Sannicandro. Students learn how to create computer art and interactive games using Scratch, the block-based programming language developed at MIT. Students explore the uses of basic concepts, such as loops and conditionals, and apply them in a project of their choosing. At the end of the course, students share their Scratch creations with their parents and classmates. 

    No previous programming skills are required, but students should be comfortable using a computer and managing online and offline files.

  • Different Strokes

    JPK-SPK

    Do you have a budding artist on your hands? Have you found your kids doodling for hours, playing in paint or sculpting with clay? Then maybe it’s time to discover some new talents and help develop that creativity.Mrs. Giorgi encourages creativity and invites children to explore materials where they can let their imaginations loose, create something new, and play while doing it all! We begin every class with stories that stimulate the imagination and then encourage the children to express their own ideas, develop fine motor skills, problem-solve, and have fun! We provide age-appropriate guidance and instruction with a variety of activities and materials.

    Looking for an action-packed workout class? Try Fit Kid Boot Camp and get ready to sweat with Mrs. Smith! Through different drills, circuits, and activities, children will develop their agilities and endurance while increasing their speed, power, and coordination.

  • Garden Club Seedlings

    Kindergarten-Grade 4

    “Inch by inch, row by row, gonna make this garden grow…”

    Join the RCS Garden Club's fall session and spend 10 fun-filled afternoons working, exploring, playing, and learning in LC garden. Together we will harvest vegetables, plant bulbs, and prepare our garden for winter. We will also dig for worms, carve pumpkins, build scarecrows, and so much more! Please dress for messy outdoor fun!

  • Hip Hop

    Kindergarten-Grade 4

    Get ready to step, stomp, and shake it out this summer! Hip Hop is a fast-growing, empowering discipline of dance popular among children of all ages. Join Ms. Barr as she partners with dancers in actively exploring their creativity, musicality, and rhythm! The class will begin by connecting each dancer’s mind and body in preparation for this fast-paced form of artistic expression. With an emphasis placed upon developing the confidence to perform, children will cultivate their strength, coordination, and flexibility through choreography and movement. No dance experience necessary!

  • Homework Club

    Grades 2-4

    What better way for your child to get their homework completed than by joining the Homework Club? After a quick snack for added brainpower, the Homework Club will meet in a spacious and airy classroom with several comfortable options for children to choose. Whether they prefer to sit at a table, on comfy cushions, or spread out on a rug, the goal is for them to work on their assignments in a relaxed, quiet learning environment. 

    An experienced head teacher will provide guidance and support, assist with organization, and help prioritize assignments. Once homework is completed, students will begin their nightly reading assignment. Once their reading assignment is completed, students can engage in grade level literacy and math skills activities.

  • LEGO Robotics

    Kindergarten-Grade 2 

    LEGO Robotics includes engineering, creativity, problem solving, and collaboration. We use LEGO Education WeDo kits to design, program, build, and test robots. A few robot projects will include animals eating, creatures walking, and trucks that can carry a heavy load. Students will see how fun coding is and how far their imagination can go!

  • LEGO Robotics II

    Grades 3-4 

    This LEGO Robotics Club is specially designed for older students who want to have fun while being challenged. Every week students combine engineering, creativity, problem solving, and collaboration to design, build, code, and test many projects. A few activities include: finding how fast a LEGO car can go, testing the strength of structures after an earthquake, and creating a rover that can travel on Mars. The final section of the club will be spent designing and building unique creations.

  • Nature's Clubhouse

    JPK-SPK

    Give your child the gift of time in nature with creative and structured play in the woods and fields in our own backyard.  We will spend Monday outside in the forest, trails and garden. We may look for tracks of animals, build fairy houses out of anything we find outside. We will work in the garden harvesting our vegetables, look at what grew and what didn’t and come up for plans for the spring. We will put the garden to bed and will build a worm and rock garden.  We will identify different trees and learn about the animals that live among us. We will learn about migration and hibernation and much more!

  • RCS Runners

    Grades 3-4

    RCS Runners is offered in affiliation with Northern Westchester Hospital's Get Physical! Running Club program.

    RCS Runners is an excellent opportunity for children to meet new friends, recognize the importance of fitness, and most importantly, enjoy running. Each week, Ms. Coyle will lead children on group runs around the Lower Campus fields. There will be provisions for indoor running during inclement weather.

    Grades 1-4

    Does your child enjoy playing basketball, soccer, and steal the bacon? If so, sign up for Sports and Games with Mr. Sannicandro. They may even discover a few new games they’ve never tried before!

  • Tennis

    Kindergarten-Grade 4

    Our own Ken Jordan, a Tennis Pro will be teaching your child all the tennis skills that he/she needs to be a lifelong player. Every student has the opportunity to learn a lifelong, life-changing sport. Mr. Jordan’s  station-based curriculum results in classes that are full of high
    energy, physical fitness, character development themes, and educational components.

  • The Hoot

    Grade 4

    Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Students will become reporters, photographers, and designers for the Lower Campus newspaper - The Hoot! Students will gather and share all the latest school news, report on special interest topics and research the latest trends. Be part of the publishing team. It’s a hoot!

  • Violin

    Grades 1-4

    Come learn how to play beautiful music! Ms. Zades will teach children the best of the Suzuki method with traditional western violin techniques. Legendary master Dr. Shinichi Suzuki’s method enables rapid development for children and flexible participation for the parents. At the end of the session, students will be able to showcase their talents to the whole school.  

    *Violin is a full year commitment. Parents will pay one fee for the entire year.

  • Yoga II

    Grades 2-4 

    Yoga II is taught by Jessica Knopke, a certified children's yoga teacher through Radiant Child Yoga. Jessica is the owner of Lily Pad Yoga  and is focused on yoga and mindfulness for children. Sessions are designed to encourage and promote self-confidence, self-awareness, gratitude, focus, kindness, and present-moment awareness. 

    Jessica is passionate about bringing strategies to promote emotional and physical well-being into the lives of children, and giving them the tools that they can use throughout their lives to handle big emotions and find inner peace. Jessica keeps her classes fun and light-hearted. Every child is accepted for exactly who they are in a nurturing and safe environment.

  • Chess Club

    Grades 5-9

    Chess club is for students who want to learn to play chess and play it well. Chess is a 400-year-old game played in every country in the world that is great fun at every level from beginner to professional. Chess teaches concentration, focus, and empathy: The only way to succeed is to see the board from your opponent’s perspective. Join Mr. Tepper and your peers on Thursdays.

  • Clay Club

    Grades 5-9

    Come play and discover the amazing properties of clay more deeply in Clay Club with Mrs. Vincent (Giorgi). This wonderful earth medium has so much to offer in helping to make your functional and sculptural creation ideas come to life. Students attending this class will learn classic hand-building techniques and different surface decoration skills used to create a variety of ceramic objects.

  • Garden Club

    Join the RCS Garden Club’s fall session and spend 10 fun-filled afternoons working, exploring, laughing, and learning in the Upper Campus garden with Mrs. Levy. Together we will harvest vegetables, plant bulbs, and prepare our garden for winter. We will also run our own farm stand, host a scarecrow building workshop, and take a field trip to a local garden. Rain boots or old sneakers are suggested!

  • LEGO Robotics

    Mrs. DiVenuto and Mr. Cameron are excited to be coaching the Ripp Robotics team again this season. The team will spend the fall term building, coding, and preparing for the FIRST LEGO League event in January 2020.   • Power Yoga Workshop

    Join Ms. Harriman in a beginners power yoga class. Power yoga is a fitness based vinyasa practice that increases stamina, balance, flexibility, and strength.  It also uses meditation to reduce stress and increase focus.
