On Friday, March 9th, the Upper Campus Trustees’ Gym was full to capacity as the winter athletics program was celebrated and players were recognized for their contributions to their teams.   Teams with notable records were recognized and awards were given to members of the Varsity Teams for Most Improved Player, Most Valuable Player, and the highly esteemed Coaches Award.

Athletic Director, Thomas Morrissey, began the assembly with some inspiring words about the role of athletics at RCS and the tremendous opportunities afforded every student athlete.  Coach Morrissey talked about the strength of the teams, the number of teams with hallmark seasons, the fact that there were more home games this year providing opportunities for fellow students to show their support, and the impressive level of improvement on every team.  He also recognized the tremendous role that the coaches play and remarked that our teams come to the game ready to play with strong defensive and offensive strategies, tenacious attitudes, and the will to be the best that they can be.

Many of the teams had extremely strong records, including the Seventh Grade Boys Basketball team, which went 10-1, coached by Paul Ragonesi, Richie Meyers, and Ed Clarke; the Seventh Grade Girls Basketball team, coached by Steve Willson, which also went 10-1; the Girls Varsity Basketball team, coached by AD Tom Morrissey, which went 12-2; and the Girls Varsity Hockey team which had its first winning season in three years.  Of special note was the Sixth Grade Boys Basketball team, also coached by Steve Willson, which had a spectacular undefeated season.  Watch out next year, these athletes are on the move!
