Red Team Wins Annual Field Day Competition

Red 549 Points
Blue 541 Points

On Friday, May 22, RCS students in grades 5-9 gathered on the Upper Campus Meyers athletic fields for a long-cherished RCS tradition, the annual Field Day competition.

Proudly wearing their respective colors, the teams started the day with the traditional silent march up Clinton Road led by team captains Caroline Carpenter and Matt Lacey (Blue) and Mahaylie Spain and Ben Teolis (Red). Cheered on by faculty, parents, siblings, alums, and friends, students then took to the fields to compete in numerous events including high jump, long jump, distance throw, accuracy throw, relay races, a 100 meter dash, a 400 meter dash, a 1.5 mile distance run on Clinton Road, a closest to the pin golf event, and a novelty obstacle course run. First, second, and third place winners for each event earned points for their teams. Once the individual competitions and relay races were complete, each grade took part in heated Red vs. Blue tug of war battles with the Red team winning the 5th, 6th, and 8th grade battles while the Blue 7th and 9th grade teams each prevailed in their tug of war contests.

At the end of the day, the Red team emerged victorious earning 549 total points with the Blue team trailing by just 8 points with a total of 541.

Field Day is the final competition between the Red and Blue Teams. Throughout the year, students on the Upper Campus have earned points for their team for achievements such as making the honor roll, returning library books, and winning the fun and friendly competitions that take place during Friday Assemblies. All points, including those won by each team on Field Day, are being tallied and the overall Red/Blue competition winner will be announced at graduation on June 11.
